The architect in me loves this: Repurposing a space for the good of the community.

Minneapolis-based architects Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd. breathed fresh life into the warehouse, about as big as two and-a-half football fields, late last year, when they repurposed it as the country’s largest single-story public library.

Street Stone

In the project titled Street Stone, graphic designer Alexis Persani photoshopped modern-day street clothes and accessories to photos of male statues found at the Louvre , all shot by Leo Caillard .

Here's a video that shows how he did it:

A Kid at Heart

Converse and Lucky Brand just released their 2013 kid's collections which got me thinking...just because the days of  summer fun are a distance memory doesn't mean you can't revive some childhood spirit. Bring the whimsy of summer into the office with these pieces perfect for the kid-at-heart.

Friday Inspiration

Feeling inspired this week by :
Laurent Chehere

French photographer Laurent Chehere left a successful advertising career (with clients such as Audi and Nike)  to follow his passion for fantastical photography. He traveled around the world and out of his journey came The Flying House series.

Design Inspired Weekend

There is nothing more glorious than a three day weekend.  At a loss for what to do with your extra day of sunshine?

If you find yourself in New York City, take a trip up the Hudson River and visit the Dia Art Foundation - an old warehouse that has been transformed into a modern art museum. http://www.diaart.org/sites/main/beacon

    My favorite installations:

    Andy Warhol

    Sculpture by R. Serra

On the West Coast? You can also see R. Serra’s work at LACMA.

No holiday weekend is complete without a trip to the California coast.  Catch some rays and stop for lunch at the fantastic Beachcomber Cafe - a cafe located on the water's edge in Newport Beach.

Further up the coast, camping for people who don’t like camping:

El Capitan Canyon, near Santa Barbara, is a nature retreat where you can unwind, relax and commune with nature - from the comfort of your glamorous tent. "Roughing it" just got easier

If all else fails, there is always TIPSY LEMONADE AND PEACH ICED TEA!

Get your creative juices flowing:

INGREDIENTS:

2 large tea bags for iced tea
1/2 cup boiling water
8 fresh mint sprigs
4 cups lemonade made from frozen concentrate
1/2 cup vodka
Ice cubes
Slices from 1 lemon and 1 peach, for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

In a medium bowl, add tea bags and pour over boiling water. Let steep 4 minutes. Carefully discard tea bags.
Place mint sprigs in a large pitcher; mash with a muddler or handle of a wooden spoon until slightly bruised. Pour in tea, lemonade, and vodka. Chill in refrigerator before serving.
Fill 8 highball glasses with ice. Pour tea among glasses. Garnish with lemon and peach slices.

Cheers!

REM Eyewear Executives to Teach Popular Continuing Education Course Live at Vision Expo East

REM Eyewear Executives to Teach Popular
Continuing Education Course Live at Vision Expo East

The hugely popular 20/20 Continuing Education course titled “Frame Design and Development: Looking Beyond Logos and Markings” will be taught live at Vision Expo East 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday March 15. Registration is now open at www.VisionExpoEast.com.
Since the launch of the online educational opportunity, more than 3,200 individuals have successfully completed the course receiving credit from the American Board of Opticianry – more than any other 20/20 Continuing Education course to date.
Mike Hundert, REM Eyewear CEO and Chief Creative Officer collaborated with Nico Roseillier, REM Eyewear Creative Director, to design the course so participants have the opportunity to explore today’s eyewear manufacturing dynamics.  From country of origin to methods and materials, students gain a better understanding of how to evaluate eyewear and best describe quality to patients.
Hundert offers students an in-depth view of manufacturing, acquired through three decades of hands-on experience working with factories around the world.  Course participants benefit from Hundert’s wisdom, gaining knowledge usually only accessible with a passport and years of meticulous research.
Roseillier lends his expertise in designing on-brand collection concepts and demonstrates examples from such eyewear brands as acclaimed designer John Varvatos and American classic Converse.  From inception to creation, Roseillier guides students through his process giving a behind-the-scenes look at what happens when creativity and engineering collide.
REM Eyewear is known for quality so it comes as no surprise that both men focus on quality from beginning to end.
“Quality is at the heart of every decision we make at our Los Angeles headquarters and that mindset carries through the manufacturing process. Students of the course will walk away with tips for identifying markers of quality and the best way to communicate that quality to the end consumer,” said Hundert.

For those who can’t make it to Vision Expo East, the course is available for one CE credit online, at no cost - thanks to a grant from REM Eyewear, until October 2013. Visit www.2020Mag.com/CE to register.
